(KNSI) — Election officials with Sherburne County say some absentee ballots received by mail were inadvertently omitted from the unofficial results reported Tuesday night.
The issue stemmed from a single ballot scanner that did not fully transfer its data to the state’s election reporting system. Updated unofficial results for all countywide races have now been submitted and are available on the Secretary of State’s website.
“This is why election results are unofficial until all tabulations and totals are checked and double checked, and the Canvassing Board meets and certifies the election results,” said County
Administrator Bruce Messelt. “This is also why procedures and multiple checks and balances are in place to identify and correct such challenges, should they arise, in the processing and counting of all cast ballots.”
The county says it is continuing to work with the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office and any affected candidates so the final certified results meet fairness, accuracy, and transparency standards required by law.
