(KNSI) — Former President Donald Trump is once again President-Elect Donald Trump, as the race has been called in his favor.
Trump survived two assassination attempts and criminal cases brought against him in the months leading up to the election. Trump showed his mettle after being shot in the ear at an outdoor rally in Pennsylvania in July. He jumped up and, with a bloodied face, raised his fist and led the crowd in a chant of “Fight! Fight! Fight!” The scene was repeated in numerous campaign ads.
Trump’s path to the White House was secured by victories in battleground states Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Arizona, Michigan and Nevada have not yet projected a winner. Those three states equal 32 electoral votes, which is still not enough for Vice President Kamala Harris to overcome Trump’s 277 electoral votes.
Trump is only the second president in U.S. history to win back the office after losing it. The other was President Grover Cleveland, who was first elected in 1884 but lost in 1888 to Benjamin Harrison. Cleveland was renominated in 1892, beating Benjamin Harrison.
