(KNSI) — At Tuesday’s meeting, the Benton County Board of Commissioners is expected to approve a resolution supporting Operation Green Light.

The initiative is being encouraged by the National Association of Counties and the Minnesota Association of Counties. It aims to pay homage to and show respect for former service members by installing a green light in the windows of homes, businesses, and public buildings.

Roughly 200,000 service members are honorably discharged each year, and a majority feel high levels of stress as they transition to civilian life. Operation Green Light hopes to show them that they aren’t alone.

Operation Green Light also salutes organizations like the VFW and American Legion, which allow veterans to continue contributing to their community. It runs through Veterans Day, November 11th.
