(KNSI) – The latest report shows stubborn drought across nearly all of Minnesota.

The percentage of the state experiencing severe drought jumped to over 51%, and more than 90% is facing at least moderate drought. The area that saw the most change was the extreme southeastern section, from around Winona to the Iowa border.

Stearns County was one of the few areas where things got better, if only marginally. Moderate drought slipped from 86.4% to 84.6%. South-central Stearns is only abnormally dry, as is most of Meeker and eastern Kandiyohi Counties. All of Sherburne and Benton Counties are in moderate drought.

Relief could be on the way. In addition to Thursday’s rain and snow, we have a 50-50 chance on Friday for some precipitation. Rain chances for Sunday and Monday are at least 80%. The next reading will be taken Tuesday, November 5th with results posted on Thursday, the 7th.
