(KNSI) — The St. Cloud Police Department is issuing a renewed warning about a scam popping up around the area again.

Over the past week, the department’s front desk has received calls from people who have been contacted from an unknown source. The caller claims to be with the St. Cloud police and then demands payment for overdue fines or bail or else a warrant will be issued for the victim’s arrest if they don’t comply.

The police department says it does not engage in activity relating to collecting bail money, receiving money in lieu of not processing an arrest warrant, overdue fines for criminal/traffic offenses, etc.

The public is strongly encouraged to disregard these calls as fraudulent and to not comply with demands or agree to any payments.

Anyone who receives a scam call is asked to hang up the phone.
