(KNSI) – A fundraiser to find a cure for a disease that robs people of their independence raised more than $124,000.

According to a press release, 441 people and 55 teams participated in the annual St. Cloud Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which was held on September 21st at Eastman Park along the shores of Lake George. The money raised will support the Alzheimer’s Association’s classes, resources for local families, and dementia research.

Tinamarie Simmonds from the team ‘Jack’s Angels’ was the event’s top individual contributor, raising $6,061 for the cause in memory of her husband Jack, who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2023. Lake Country Decks was the top company fundraising team with more than $2,600. Owner Dustin Smith’s father died from the disease in 2017.
