(KNSI) – In another big hit to downtown St. Cloud, Oberg Roofing and Remodeling has closed its doors.
We were tipped off by customers who received notices from a building product supplier that they had not been paid by Oberg. KNSI News contacted that supplier who confirmed they sent out a few prelien notices on properties they still had lien rights on. By sending a prelien notice, the subcontractor establishes their right to file a mechanic’s lien if they are not paid. A mechanic’s lien is a legal claim that can be filed against a property owner by a contractor, subcontractor or a material supplier if they are not paid for their work. In Minnesota, if a property owner can document they have paid their contractor, they would not be on the hook for the lien amount. The person we spoke with said they’re taking it case by case.
The supplier confirmed it sent out many notices of nonpayment to alert homeowners Oberg had not paid them yet.
KNSI News also confirmed with separate sources the business closed October 14th.
We have contacted Oberg for comment and guidance for customers but our messages have not been returned.
