(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has confirmed zebra mussels in Bass Lake near Annandale.

Residents first contacted the DNR and an invasive species specialist was sent out. They personally verified finding a live zebra mussel attached to a dock. The release does not say if were additional samples discovered in other parts of the 218-acre lake.

The DNR reminds people that Minnesota law requires you to clean your boat, equipment, and trailers to remove any aquatic plants that have glommed on. It also specifies that all water needs to be drained and plugs left out while transporting your boat back home or to another lake, unused bait should be put into the trash, and boat lifts, docks, and rafts have to sit for 21 days before being moved to another body of water.

The agency also recommends using decontamination stations, spraying the boat with a high-pressure washer. Owners should give watercraft five days to dry out after it is taken from the water.
