(KNSI) – One person is dead and another has life-threatening injuries after a seven-car crash in Minneapolis Wednesday night.
The accident happened at about 9:15 on Interstate 94 near the exit to Lyndale Avenue. The Minnesota State Patrol Current Incident Report states a Chevy Avalanche was tearing east at a high rate of speed when it collided with six other vehicles.
The pickup truck was driven by 29-year-old Talon Covie-Cadrell Walker of St. Paul. He was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. His passenger, a 20-year-old woman, is fighting for her life at Hennepin County Medical Center.
One of the vehicles hit was a 2015 Jeep Cherokee driven by 26-year-old Natalie Gubbay of Minneapolis. She died at the scene. The passenger in the Jeep was treated for non-life threatening injuries at HCMC.
When all of the other vehicles are taken into account, six more people were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. They include a two-year-old boy who was in the back seat of a 2023 GMC Yukon SUV. Another passenger in the Yukon was five years old, but he was unhurt and checked out only as a precaution.
The State Patrol report indicates Covie-Cadrell Walker had been drinking and alcohol is considered a factor in the accident.
