(KNSI) – Eleven people who were part of a pro-Palestine riot were arrested after barricading themselves inside and occupying Morril Hall on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus, along with blocking a University of Minnesota administration building.

School officials sent a Safe-U Alert just before 6:00 p.m. warning of restricted access and property damage inside the hall. Metal tables and bike locks were used to block doors after the group who call themselves Students for a Democratic Society had marched from a rally elsewhere on campus. They renamed the building Halimy Hall after a Palestinian TikToker was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike. Employees and students trapped inside were led safely to the exits.

The SDS was angry over the U’s protest policies after the school restricted any protests to 100 people or fewer and outlawed the use of bullhorns. The group is also demanding the U divest from its investments in Israel.

University police and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office entered the building and started making arrests. By 9:15 p.m., police had cleared the building.
