(KNSI) – The 2024 Class A soccer coach of the year is a familiar sight roaming the sidelines of central Minnesota.

The award was given to Kris Fremo of St. John’s Prep after she guided the Johnnies to a 9-4-1 overall record. St. John’s Prep lost a top scorer to injury and was without their starting goalie for a significant part of the season, but they persevered thanks to Fremo’s leadership.

She is known for being supportive and positive, so it might not be surprising to hear Fremo pass off the success to others. She sums up the season: “We have a small group of hard-working, mostly younger players who have been determined and versatile in the face of challenge.”

Fremo has coached for decades in the area. She began her career at St. John’s Prep for a dozen seasons before shifting to Sauk Rapids-Rice and the Central Lakes Conference. She returned to the Johnnies four years ago. In 27 seasons, her overall record stands at 202-182-35.

Fremo has won section coach of the year honors three times, but this is her first time being recognized as Minnesota head coach of the year. The banquet is scheduled for Sunday at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul.

Off the pitch, Fremo is an upper school art teacher at SJP. She also sings in the school choir and has two daughters.
