(KNSI) – St. Cloud Police are releasing the name of a man who died during an incident that triggered a large law enforcement response on the city’s west side earlier this month.

According to a press release, the afternoon of October 2nd, the Morrison County Sheriff’s Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension were doing a follow up investigation at a home on the 1700 block of Casselberry Road. They were looking for a minor who was considered an endangered runaway.

Investigators say 53-year-old Scott Carlstrom had been communicating with a teenager for months via an online forum and he convinced her to come stay with him. He then drove to Morrison County to meet with her and brought her back to his house.

During questioning, Carlstrom retreated into a back bedroom. Officers heard one gunshot and evacuated everyone before requesting help from the St. Cloud Police Department as they tried to speak with the man.

St. Cloud and Waite Park Police responded as did the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department due to the potential volatility of the situation, according to authorities. The SWAT Team was also called out for a tactical response and found Carlstrom dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No officers fired their weapon at any point and no one else was hurt. The investigators inside the house were wearing body cams.

The case remains under investigation.
