(KNSI) – Two Sartell students are being celebrated for their performance in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Lyzander Borg is in the top one percent of all high school seniors, earning a semifinalist designation. Only about 16,000 students in America are named semifinalists. To be considered a finalist, Borg will need to submit a full application detailing his academic record, leadership abilities, and community participation.

Laila Oloriegbe was chosen as a Commended Student, meaning she placed in the top 50,000 students nationwide. Sartell High School Principal Shayne Kusler exclaimed, “On behalf of the entire Sartell High School community, I want to share how proud we are of Lyzander and Laila. It is a wonderful accomplishment for two students in our senior class to receive National Merit designations.”

High school juniors are entered into the competition when they take the Preliminary SAT.
