(KNSI) – The Minnesota Twins franchise could have new owners before the 2025 season.
On Thursday, the Pohlad family announced their intent to explore a sale of the Twins. The family has owned the major league franchise for the last 40 years.
Twins Executive Chair Joe Pohlad said that his family decided over the summer to look at selling the Twins and felt the time was right to make the decision public.
“We truly respect and cherish what the Twins mean to Minneapolis, St. Paul, the great state of Minnesota, and this entire region. Our goal is to be as informative as possible with the team, staff, and you, the fans. You deserve that, because in so many ways, this team doesn’t belong to any one family – it belongs to all of you. It’s our objective to find an ownership group who all of us can be proud of and who will take care of the Minnesota Twins.”
According to Sportico.com’s most recent valuations, the Twins are worth $1.7 billion. The team had around $309 million in revenue in 2023, which ranked 20th. Carl Pohlad bought the team for $44 million in 1984.
The Twins missed the playoffs last season with an 82-80 record. They won two World Series Titles under the Pohlads’ leadership in 1987 and 1991.
