(KNSI) – The highlight of Fire Prevention Week in St. Cloud is Wednesday afternoon, with an open house at Station Three on the city’s east side near Talahi School.

Fire Marshall Brian Kiffmeyer tells KNSI News there are educational opportunities related to this year’s theme, “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!” and a chance to make the case for a new station near Tech High School.

“We’ll have some information regarding the referendum that is coming up for Fire Station Six, and also some handouts for families as well as treats and all kinds of stuff. It’s a great event.”

Kiffmeyer promises a DJ and a chance to wear out your dancing shoes. He teased some hands-on demonstrations, too. “We’re doing some extrication demonstrations. We’re going to have some stuff for people to participate in, running some extrication tools, so you can actually pick them up and see what the firefighters do.”

The open house runs from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at 1201 University Drive SE. In Cold Spring, a groundbreaking at the site of the new fire hall is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. before an open house at the current headquarters at the municipal center.

Waite Park and Sartell have events on Thursday. Sartell kicks things off at 4:00 at the Public Safety Building at 501 Pinecone Road. There will be a touch-a-truck event featuring fire station and police department vehicles. Sartell Fire hopes to show off the newest addition to its fleet.

Waite Park will get going at 6:00. A meet and greet with members of the fire department and free food are some of the highlights.
