(KNSI) — As Florida braces for Hurricane Milton, members of the Minnesota National Guard have already been mobilized to help.

The National Hurricane Center is warning of 15 foot storm surge in the Tampa area as the monster storm takes aim. “This is an extremely life threatening situation and residents in those areas should follow advice issued by local officials and evacuate immediately if told to do so.”

Cleanup is still underway as Hurricane Helene raked the state a week and a half ago and resources to help the storm battered state are becoming scarce. The mobilization comes on the heels of another that sent soldiers from Minnesota to the Carolinas for assistance after Helene struck.

Plans are being drawn up for what exactly the guard’s mission will be. They are working with officials in Florida, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and the Department of Homeland Security as part of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact.
