Former Wolgamott Campaign Manager Endorses Republican Sue Ek in District 14B

(KNSI) – A former campaign manager for Representative Dan Wolgamott has endorsed his opponent in this year’s District 14B race.

Catherine Harrison appeared on KNSI’s “Hot Talk with the Ox” program Friday morning. She feels she has been ostracized from the DFL for her stance on what she calls sex-based rights. She lists the right to have separate sports leagues, bathrooms, private spaces like locker rooms, and dormitories and sororities that cater solely to women.

She describes herself now as politically homeless but remains shocked at how quickly she went from being a member in good standing to being on the outs. “If Dan Wolgamott really wanted to understand the issue and really wanted to hear me, that would be one thing, and then he could say, ‘Hey, we disagree on this politically, but Catherine, I love you. We’ve been friends for forever. It’s okay. You can think what you want to think, and I’ll think what I want to think. We’ll still be friends. That’s cool.’ But he wasn’t able to do that.”

Harrison refuses to back down on the issue. She says safety in a woman’s bathroom is important. “There is no longer such a thing as a women’s bathroom. Women literally don’t have a private place that’s women only to go to use the bathroom. And we’re talking about elderly women, we’re talking about little girls learning how to go potty, girls 10, 11, 12 [years old] learning how to menstruate and how to deal with that in a public bathroom. It makes me emotional just thinking about it. I don’t think men should be going into the bathroom. But the people that do think that, the small number, are very loud, and they work deeply in the Democratic Party, and they have put forward legislation that is out of step with what even most Democrats know to be true, which is that men don’t belong in the women’s bathroom and so many other issues of encroachment related to this issue.”

Harrison is still an advocate for transgender individuals in many ways, but she has her limits. “I don’t fault anybody’s right to have a job. Everybody deserves a job, no matter what you wear. Everybody could wear a skirt to work. I do not care who wears a skirt to work, but I care very much who goes into the women’s bathroom at work.”

Harrison is supporting Wolgamott’s opponent in this year’s District 14B general election. Although she no longer lives in the area, she encourages residents to choose Republican candidate Sue Ek.
