(KNSI) – St. Cloud Police are releasing more information about an incident that triggered a large law enforcement response on the city’s west side Wednesday afternoon.
According to a press release, the Morrison County Sheriff’s Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension were doing a follow up investigation at a home on the 1700 block of Casselberry Road about 3:30. They were looking for a minor who was considered an endangered runaway. While investigators were talking to a man who lived there he retreated into a back bedroom. Officers heard one gunshot and promptly evacuated everyone. Authorities at the house requested assistance from the St. Cloud Police Department as they tried to speak with the man. St. Cloud and Waite Park Police responded as did the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department due to the potential volatility of the situation. The SWAT Team was also called out for a tactical response and found the man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The minor in the house is in the care of Morrison County.
No officers fired their weapon at any point and no one else was hurt. The investigators inside the house were wearing body cams. The man’s name has not been released.
The case remains under investigation.
