(KNSI) – A head-on crash near Melrose Friday hospitalized two people, including a toddler.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says 45-year-old Tyler Alm of Alexandria was driving a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe west on County Road 65 at about 5:40 p.m. when he claims his rear tire blew out. Distracted by the noise, Alm says he looked back to see what was happening and drifted over the centerline.

The Santa Fe struck a 2017 Toyota Camry headed east driven by a 26-year-old man from Sleepy Eye. Both vehicles were traveling at highway speeds, leading to a violent collision.

Deputies say Alm suffered a cut to his arm. The Camry driver and a 3-year-old girl were taken to Melrose Hospital for treatment of significant but non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies ticketed Alm for having a revoked license and no proof of insurance.
