(KNSI) — A 34-year-old Zimmerman man is facing charges after an alleged gun pointing incident Friday.

According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, they were contacted by St. Cloud police, who said someone reported a driver in a white Chevy Avalanche pointed a gun at them late Friday afternoon. Officers found an SUV matching the description of the suspect vehicle speeding on Highway 23 near 35th Avenue Northeast. Deputies went to make a traffic stop and saw the driver throw something out the window. Once the driver stopped, he said someone pointed a gun at him and other vehicles around him and said he had no firearms in his vehicle.

Investigators say they found the object the man allegedly threw out his window. It was a plastic bag containing a white powder believed to be a controlled substance. A press release says a search of his vehicle turned up a case containing a loaded handgun.

The man was arrested and booked into the Benton County jail, awaiting his first court appearance.
