(KNSI) — A man is facing felony charges after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase and crashing into a fence at a high school football field.

According to a press release, around 10:20 p.m. Sunday night, a Morrison County sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the driver on Highway 115 near Camp Ripley. The vehicle had expired tabs and a loud exhaust. The driver fled, reaching speeds of 99 miles an hour. The driver went south on Highway 371 before exiting on Highway 27 in Little Falls. At that point, the deputy called off the pursuit due to public safety concerns.

Police were told to be on the lookout for the vehicle before it turned up in the Little Falls Community High School parking lot. Officers say when the driver saw the officer, he sped off toward the football field and crashed into the fence.

The 32-year-old driver from Hewitt was arrested and booked into the Morrison County Jail on suspicion of first-degree damage to property, driving after revocation, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.
