(KNSI) — Several cell phone providers are experiencing outages that are wreaking havoc on users from coast to coast.

The website Downdetector shows Verizon was hit hardest, with a surge of complaints beginning to stream in around 9:00 a.m. local time. It peaked at around 104,000 notices nationwide and things haven’t appeared to improve since.

Cell phone customers report that their Apple iPhones are stuck in SOS mode, allowing them to make emergency calls in areas with poor service. Usually, that means a rural area, but today, it includes some of the country’s largest cities, from New York to Los Angeles, Seattle to Miami.

Verizon is the largest outage reported but users with AT&T, Spectrum, T-Mobile, and others are also sounding the alarm over spotty issues. The problems come on the heels of Hurricane Helene, which disrupted networks in the southeast for most of the weekend.

St. Cloud seems to be relatively unaffected by the problems.
