(KNSI) – A senior at St. John’s Prep is a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Amanda Bolton of Sartell is one of only 288 students from across Minnesota to receive the honor. The program offers a total of $33 million in financial assistance to the winners.
To earn the recognition, you have to be a top scorer on the PSAT. In addition to her academic successes, Bolton is a member of the track and field team each spring. She is also a co-captain of the soccer and basketball squads at the school.
Bolton leads a volunteer group at CentraCare – St. Cloud Hospital. Her goal is to attend medical school and have a career as a pediatric dermatologist. She hopes to study molecular, cellular, and developmental biology as an undergrad.
Outside of science classes, Bolton’s favorite subject was film studies. To be considered a finalist, she will need to complete an application summarizing her academic and extracurricular achievements, including a list of honors and awards and showcasing her leadership abilities.
Finalists will be announced in January.
