(KNSI) – Minnesota is offering grants that could give livestock farmers a break on upgrades.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has $1.1 million set aside for 2025 and will reimburse 10% of the first $250,000 spent on eligible investments. The maximum grant amount available per year is $25,000.

Anyone raising beef or dairy cattle, pigs, chickens, goats, mules, buffalo, sheep, horses, deer, elk, emus, and llamas could qualify.

Funds can be used for facilities to produce livestock or livestock products. They can also be used to develop pasture for animals, including lanes, watering systems, fences and equipment for livestock housing, confinement, feeding, and waste management.

The grant will not pay for livestock, tractors, skid steer loaders, general-purpose buildings, pasture or cropland, animal feed, crop seed, planters, combines, or debt refinancing.

Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14th.
