(KNSI) – A weekend update of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Fall Color Finder shows you don’t have to go far to catch a peek of orange, red, and yellow leaves.

Sibley State Park in New London, just on the other side of the Stearns and Kandiyohi County Line, is now registering 25-50% of expected peak color. Monson Lake State Park to the west confirmed similar readings. The DNR estimates that the band of early color extends into central Stearns County near Albany.

It’s the only location in south or central Minnesota beginning to brighten up. St. Cloud is still in the 0-10% range, part of a stretch that runs north of the Twin Cities towards Taylor Falls and the St. Croix Valley. Brainerd and up towards the headwaters of the Mississippi River, even as far north as Bemidji, are also showing little change.

An animated map currently estimates St. Cloud will be in peak color around October 14th.
