(KNSI) – Fall colors are starting to pop across much of Minnesota.

According to the latest fall color finder released Thursday, trees are at 25 to 50% of peak color in the northwestern part of the state along the Red River Valley and in the Arrowhead, especially in the northern half of St. Louis County and the western portions of Lake County. The Rochester area is also seeing similar changes.

Much of the rest of the state is in the 10% to 25% range, but several areas, including St. Cloud, the western Twin Cities, parts of southern and western Minnesota, Lake Mille Lacs, the Brainerd Lakes area and Bemidji and Red Lake, have seen little to no change at all.

On average, colors peak in the northern third of Minnesota between now and early October. The midsection sees it between later this month and early next month, while the southern parts see it later this month and into mid October.
