(KNSI) — The St. Cloud Area School District 742 Local Education & Activities Foundation Adopt-A-Classroom program is underway, but it needs community support to be a success.

This program connects businesses, individuals, and groups with classrooms that need extra help. Here’s how Adopt-A-Classroom works: Donors can select a specific classroom by telling LEAF which school and grade level they would like to support then they give $250 to “adopt” that classroom. That money then goes directly to needed supplies the district is unable to fund. This includes everything from basic materials like pencils and notebooks to specialized items like science kits and sheet music.

Currently, teachers often spend hundreds of dollars out of their own pockets to provide basic supplies for classroom use to help ensure a quality educational experience for their students.

Since the program began in 2011, LEAF has raised more than $300,000. That’s enough to help 1,200 classrooms.

Donations are tax deductible and will be collected through the end of the month. Learn more or leave a gift by clicking here.
