(KNSI) – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives celebrated U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger Wednesday with the Honorary Award of Appreciation.

Luger heads the Twin Cities-based office in charge of the District of Minnesota. The recognition goes to senior officials or a major department or organization that supports an ATF field division. Luger was praised as a “steadfast ally” to the ATF.

The agency says the Minnesota office uses a two-pronged strategy to reduce gun violence. First, it targets those who are committing crimes using a weapon. Secondly, it also works to intercept firearms before they get to criminals.

The ATF also lauded Luger and his staff for public outreach and education on the subject. The Honorary Award of Appreciation is one of ten given out each year by the agency.
