(KNSI) – HuHot Mongolian Grill will open this week at the site of the former Mongo’s restaurant on Division Street in St. Cloud.

Tom Gough is an executive with Franchise Restaurant Concepts Group. He tells KNSI News they purchased Mongo’s back in February and were happy with the restaurant but had an existing non-compete clause with HuHot since they run 23 of their locations across the Midwest. He said the group would have liked to continue to operate as Mongo’s, but the legal agreement forced them to rebrand as HuHot here in St. Cloud if they wanted to continue with the Mongolian grill dining concept.

When HuHot begins serving food on Wednesday, it will still feature the popular build-your-own stir fry format. In an email sent to KNSI Gough says, “Overall, the restaurant will basically stay the same.” The layout will hardly change, but construction crews still had to replace the old Mongo’s look with HuHot decor. As part of the switch, some additional food and sauce options will be available.

Gough says the goal is to incorporate the differences in the least intrusive manner, as Mongo’s was a hit with customers and a financial success.
