(KNSI) — A teenager has died, and several others were hurt after the driver of an SUV plowed through a crowd and fled the scene in downtown Minneapolis early Saturday morning.
Police responded to the incident outside Augie’s Cabaret on Hennepin Avenue around 12:30. A bystander video from social media showed someone on the hood of the SUV and someone trying to get her to come down. Another video showed people fighting on a corner near the bar before the SUV was seen running over those involved in the fight and some onlookers before driving away.
The SUV was found a short time later, and the driver was arrested.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara called the video “horrific” and said there was “no question” the suspect used their vehicle as a weapon.
According to a statement from police, a 16-year-old died in the crash, and five others, including two 14-year-old girls, were hurt. A 29-year-old woman suffered potentially life threatening injuries.
That driver is expected to be charged as soon as Monday.
