(KNSI) – An old familiar scam is rearing its ugly head again.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says they received numerous calls Wednesday about fraudsters pretending to be sheriff’s deputies and telling people they missed jury duty or had a warrant for their arrest. The thieves then tell the victim that they can take care of the problem right away if they pay a fee or fine.

The sheriff’s office says the calls are not real and are not from law enforcement. They advise people never to give out any personal information and hang up.

According to the Minnesota Judicial Branch, jury duty summons are always sent by mail. While failure to report for jury duty can result in penalties, the court will never call you to demand money. Likewise, you may search for arrest warrant information in the Minnesota Court Records Online database.
