(KNSI) – It may only be a coincidence, but it certainly seems fitting that 55 years after Neil Armstrong made history, the theme for the Statewide Star Party is based on International Observe the Moon Night.

Locally, an event is planned for the St. Cloud State University Planetarium. Assistant Professor Rachel Humphrey talked to KNSI News about the Bell Museum and its goals for the star party.

“There’s a concerted effort to have institutions of higher education and museums and stargazers, in general, all get together in their respective locations around the state and just appreciate what we have going on above our heads.”

St. Cloud’s gatherings will be September 12th and 13th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Humphrey pulls back the curtain on some of the fun you can expect to find if you attend.

“We’ll have some lunar puzzle activities, and we’re gonna watch a movie about the moon, and, of course, we’ll have a tour of the current night sky too, which the moon is going to be a featured guest in that.”

The event is free, but registration is required due to limited space. You can email planetarium @ stcloudstate.edu to RSVP. Humphrey says all ages are welcome.
