(KNSI) – The Tri-County Humane Society is getting groovy for a milestone fundraiser.

The organization is celebrating 50 years, so it is going back to the era of peace, love, and hippies for a throwback theme for the Companion Walk for Animals. Executive Director Marit Ortega says money has already been raised for weeks in advance of “Woofstock.”

“There are pledge forms on our website, so people can grab a pledge form and get out, and hit up their neighbors and their friends and family. A lot of people are making Facebook event pages and fundraising via Facebook. You can absolutely still join us and make a donation at the park, as well.”

Ortega predicts it will be a “paw-some” time for your favorite four-legged friend. “We’re going to have a walk for animals. We’re going to have food and music. There’s a number of vendors and sponsors who are joining us, as always, and so they’ll have games and giveaways. And then we do have volunteers who will be there, staffing some of the fun carnival doggie games for the pets that show up.”

Costumes are encouraged. A longtime supporter of the animal shelter is bringing their vintage Volkswagen bus to add to the vibes.

The event’s proceeds will help TCHS with operational expenses. The facility takes in about 5,000 animals each year. It’s scheduled for tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Wilson Park in St. Cloud.
