(KNSI) – The 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 194th Armor Regiment of the Minnesota National Guard is being honored for its work during the evacuation of Kabul, Afghanistan.

The unit was deployed from March 2021 to January 2022 in support of Operations Freedom’s Sentinel and Spartan Shield. They worked alongside the Air Force and Marine Corps to pull vulnerable Afghan citizens and Allied personnel from the country.

The regiment has been selected for the U.S. military’s highest group award, the Presidential Unit Citation. It will also receive the Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Superior Unit Award.

The ceremony is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Friday at Camp Ripley. A dinner will follow.
