(KNSI) – A relatively new downtown St. Cloud business closed its doors for good this past Saturday.

In a Facebook post, Whit’s Craft Beer says it is “extremely disappointed” that August 31st was its last day open. The blog was candid, saying revitalization efforts have yet to take hold in the city as they had hoped. The owners lament that current traffic levels along West St. Germain and 5th Avenue aren’t high enough to allow a newer self-pour taproom to find its stride.

Whit’s offered a selection of nearly 40 Minnesota alcoholic drinks, from beer to cider and seltzer. The company opened in October 2023 and says it tried various activities to attract customers. It believes trivia was successful, but Whit’s says it never earned 50% of overall expenses in a month.

The company tried to hold on until summer, expecting warmer weather to bring people out. Instead, it says traffic for the last three months was down. Whit’s has also updated its website to say it is permanently closed.

Whit’s was located in the historic Whitney Building.
