(KNSI) – Stearns County is getting ready to dole out $9,000,000 in settlement funds over the next 18 years from the nationwide opioid lawsuit against its makers.
The county is accepting applications from businesses and organizations for its first distribution of funding from the opioid settlement. Funding will be awarded to groups working on prevention, harm reduction and recovery work for those impacted by opioid use. Priority will be given to those reaching struggling communities and those showing evidence-based results.
Numbers are slowly declining, but in 2024, Minnesota has seen around 80 to 90 opioid overdose deaths each month.
The deadline to apply is September 22nd, 2024. An advisory committee has been created to oversee the distribution of these funds. Grants will be awarded in 2024 for work to be done in 2025.
