(KNSI) – The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office is helping parents brag through the traditional first-day-of-school photo without helping hackers and other cybercriminals.

Deputies say to use very basic information. Avoid including their last name, teacher’s name, school name, age, birth date, or any fun facts such as hobbies. Scammers can use that information to steal your kid’s identity or, worse, alert a predator to where your kid hangs out. This type of information can also be used to guess passwords or hack into your accounts.

One of Stearns County’s school resource officers has examples of what information is okay to display. The department would like to welcome all students back to school next week.
