(KNSI) – All three members of a family were able to escape a Wednesday night house fire without injury.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says a smoke detector woke up 30-year-old Dunia Isabel Cuadra-Lopez at about 10:50. She noticed flames at the back of the Meire Grove home. Cuadra-Lopez and her two children made it outside safely.
Melrose and Freeport Fire Departments responded and put out the blaze. The home had significant damage, both to the exterior and inside. The Red Cross is helping place the family temporarily.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Melrose Police, Melrose Ambulance, the Minnesota State Patrol, and the State Fire Marshall also responded to the scene.
