(KNSI) – Those craving mini donuts, Sweet Martha’s Cookies and deep fried ranch dressing had to wait as state fair officials asked the public to stay away from the fairgrounds this morning after storms rolled through on Monday night causing damage and flooding.

As of 7:00 a.m., at the FFA CHS Miracle of Birth Center, the rainfall total at the fair was 1.67″. The 7:00 a.m. opening of the fairgrounds was delayed until 9:00 a.m. as high winds heavy rain and frequent lightning rolled across the twin cities metro area leaving roughly 90,000 without power, and downing trees. No injuries have been reported.

The Happy Together Tour, all free shows and all Midway rides closed early Monday night as threatening skies swirled above.

Lieutenant governor Peggy Flanagan was to serve milk at the all you can drink milk stand today to highlight the dairy industry, but that has since been postponed.
