(KNSI) – The Minnesota State Fair Military Appreciation Day is honoring spouses this year.

Tuesday is the 13th annual event hosted by the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs. Army Major General Shawn Manke, adjutant general of the Minnesota National Guard, says, “Just as our service members serve our nation with courage and commitment, military spouses serve with equal strength and dedication. Their role, whether it’s supporting a partner through the challenges of active duty, the commitments of the Guard and Reserve, or the demands of daily life is not just crucial, it’s irreplaceable.”

Military Appreciation Day is held in Dan Patch Park. It begins at 10:00 a.m. with a ceremony at the bandshell, which is capped off by a flyover from four Blackhawk helicopters. It’s followed by a concert by the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division.

Spouses will have their own ceremony at 12:30 p.m. From 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., roughly 50 booths will provide information on the G.I. Bill and educational opportunities that come with serving, as well as other military-connected organizations.

Current service members, veterans, and their families get discounted admissions tickets. They cost only $13 per person with proper documentation.
