(KNSI) – This year’s Stars and S’mores event hosted by the St. Cloud Park and Recreation Department is returning to its more traditional September timeslot on the 21st.

Recreation Programmer Cassie Woischke tells KNSI News that she would rather have it in early fall. “We prefer to do it in September, if possible, because we’re able to use Wilson Park and then have a much bigger field to view the stars compared to Riverside.”

It’s organized in conjunction with the planetarium staff at St. Cloud State University. Scheduling conflicts pushed Stars and S’mores to November last year.

Woischke says it is a night of science, fellowship, and great snacks. “We’ll have s’mores over the fireplace, I have hot chocolate and hot apple cider. Otherwise, yes, they set out the telescopes in the field. In the past, we’ve been able to see Jupiter and its moons, Saturn and its rings and the moon. So, super fun stuff. It’s always really cool to see that stuff through their telescopes.”

With the earlier date, don’t hesitate to pre-register through the city’s website. There are five telescopes available and organizers limit participation to just 35 people. It traditionally fills up to capacity.

Reserving your spot costs five dollars. You can do so here. If there is bad weather or overcast skies, the makeup date will be September 28th.
