(KNSI) – A man is behind bars following a mini crime spree in St. Cloud Monday night.
According to a police department press release, authorities were called to a car crash at the intersection of 8th Avenue North and 6th Street North just before 7:00. Witnesses said the vehicle hit two vehicles before plowing into a stop sign. As officers were responding, the 35-year-old appeared to intentionally ram the back of a van, and when that driver got out, the suspect got in the driver’s seat and fled, dragging the 48-year-old owner for several feet.
Police say the suspect drove off in the stolen van and caused three more crashes as he raced away from the scene. The last happened in the 1200 block of 29th Avenue North and when the suspect got out, he tried running off before he was arrested a short distance away.
Investigators say in all, five vehicles were damaged, and two people suffered minor injuries.
The man is being held on pending charges that include carjacking, theft of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, careless driving, hit and run, and driving under the influence.
