(KNSI) – A Rockville man is heading to prison for his role in a fatal drunk driving crash.
On August 11th, 2023, at around 3:30 a.m., Aler Gomez-Lucas was driving on Highway 10 near Little Rock Lake when he left the road and rolled. His 17-year-old passenger, Nurban Ruvelsi-Perez, was ejected from the SUV and landed on the road and was run over by a passing pickup truck. Police spoke to a second 17-year-old passenger who said Gomez-Lucas was speeding and intoxicated. A preliminary breath test showed he had a blood alcohol level of .178. The legal limit to drive is .08.
Gomez-Lucas pleaded guilty to one count of criminal vehicular homicide in March. Two other charges were dismissed.
Benton County Judge Robert Raupp sentenced Gomez-Lucas to three and a half years in prison with credit for 368 days served.
