(KNSI) – The Great Minnesota Get-Together is only days away, and one of the most popular attractions is celebrating a milestone.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ iconic log building opened on the fairgrounds 90 years ago in 1934. The DNR says its park-like location provides fairgoers with a unique chance to experience the outdoors among the fair’s carnival rides and food stands.

Attendees will be treated to new musicians, presentations, and activities, in addition to popular attractions from previous years, such as the fish pond. The outdoor pond contains about three dozen species of fish native to Minnesota and holds about 50,000 gallons of water.

Other attractions on the DNR’s grounds include:
The indoor aquarium
Fire tower
Forestry displays
Lands and minerals exhibit
Nature play area
Prairie pollinator gardens
Smoky Bear’s 80th birthday celebration
Information on invasive species
The parks and trails center

The Minnesota State Fair starts Thursday and runs through Labor Day.
