(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Area School District is being recognized as one of the state’s leaders in implementing the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program.

These schools and districts have demonstrated exceptional leadership in improving school climate, engaging the community, and increasing student achievement. They are Apollo High School, Clearview Elementary, Discovery Community Elementary School, Katherine Johnson Education Center, Kennedy Community School, Lincoln Elementary School, South Junior High, Talahi Elementary, Tech High School, Westwood Elementary School, North Junior High, and Oak Hill Community School.

Other area schools making the list included Mississippi Heights Elementary School, Pleasantview Elementary and Rice Elementary School in the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District ISD 47. Foley Elementary was also recognized.

The Minnesota Department of Education announced that 78 schools in 37 districts were given the distinction. PBIS is a multi-tiered framework that focuses on preventing problem behavior, teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors, and providing intensive interventions for students with more significant needs.

District 742 was one of three honored for having 60% or more of its buildings meet the PBIS standards. The other two are the Elk River and Cambridge-Isanti districts.
