(KNSI) — More than 200,000 long-term care workers in Minnesota could be eligible for bonuses of up to $1,000, thanks to a state initiative.
The Minnesota Care Force Incentive program, backed by $84 million in funding approved in 2023, aims to honor the contributions of direct support professionals such as those who assist people with disabilities, aging residents, and children with autism. They are often involved in helping people bathe and shower, lift assistance, use the restroom, feed and dress themselves and do other daily activities.
The funds will be distributed to organizations that will, in turn, provide bonuses to eligible employees in early 2025.
“These payments recognize our direct support workforce and how much we value their work,” said Human Services Commissioner Jodi Harpstead.
The exact bonus amounts will depend on the number of applications received, with individual bonuses potentially reaching up to $1,000 per direct support professional.
