(KNSI) – A Paynesville man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and a lifetime of conditional release after he was convicted of criminal sexual conduct against two minors.

Prosecutors accused Matthew Steinemann, then in his 30s, of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in November 2019. An investigation also determined that for several months in 2016, he sexually abused a 16-year-old girl in her bedroom. The older victim was able to identify an adult toy that Steinemann used on her that was found during a search of his home.

Both of the victims said that Steinemann gave them alcohol and cigarettes as gifts to keep them from telling anyone about the abuse.

Steinemann was arrested in May 2023.

He will serve the sentences for both sexual assault charges concurrently. The second sentencing was for 12 years. He will get credit for 173 days already behind bars.
