(KNSI) — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has been chosen as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate in her 2024 presidential bid.

Walz was chosen for the number two position ahead of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly. All three spoke with Harris at her residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., over the weekend.

A large motorcade was seen outside the Governor’s home early this morning, leading political watchers to speculate Walz was the selection. His name had been floated for the last several days as a leading contender, but he skirted pointed questions as to whether he would accept or not, saying only he would “do what’s best for the country.”

Experts believe Walz, a teacher who grew up in Nebraska, will connect well with rural voters. Rural voters in Minnesota don’t mirror those feelings after he referred to greater Minnesota and “red areas” as “mostly rocks and cows.”

Walz served as a Congressman in Minnesota’s First District before being elected governor in 2018 and again in 2022.
