(KNSI) – The Stearns County Parks Department is asking people avoid two popular trails after severe weather over the weekend.
Officials say staff members are currently doing damage assessments across the park system in the wake of strong storms that triggered tornado warnings late Saturday. They are describing the number of downed trees and broken branches as significant on both the Dairyland and Lake Wobegon Trails.
Tree removal will start on Monday, but it could be a lengthy process. While that is happening, they want people to avoid the paths.
Hail over two inches in diameter, high wind, and heavy rain were reported in several areas. As many as 5,000 people lost power. An EF-1 tornado touched down in Melrose, flattening at least one farm building, but no injuries were reported.
