(KNSI) – Authorities in Sherburne County are working on a train derailment in Big Lake.

It happened around 3:15 a.m. The train that derailed was a BNSF, and we were told it was carrying consumer goods. The derailment affected roughly 15 cars in a mostly industrial area. No homes are in danger, and we are also being told there is no fire hazard.

Traffic on the commuter line is being affected as it happened east of the North Star Rail station. Service is not running, at least for today.  Roadway traffic is also impacted as 172nd Street Northwest is blocked between 197th Avenue and County Road 14.

More heavy machinery arrived Saturday afternoon, and crews are working as quickly as possible to clear everything out.
